  • I got to go round up the sea lions today for the sea lion swim and they ran off of the beach like excited dogs, followed me out to the clearer water , and then looked up at me like this … πŸ™‹πŸ πŸŒπŸŒŠ ☯☼☯☼☯☼☯☼ #SeaLions @gopro (at Adventure Bay Charters)

  • Happy Saturday from these friendly sea puppies! ☺️😍🌏 taken on my @gopro @adventurebaycharters #AustralianSeaLions @australia @nature (at Sea Lion Haven)

  • I relaxed , sank to the bottom of the cage and watched to see this fish for what it was, not the under-water homicidal maniac like the media stereotyped.
What I saw was an amazingly graceful, wonderfully designed super- predator that was build to survive , and moved through the water effortlessly.πŸ™ŒπŸ˜ŒπŸŒπŸŒŠπŸŸ
Taken on my @gopro today aboard @adventurebaycharters.

  • #SouthernOcean mornings, taking it all in on the front of the boat on the 2.5hr trip out to Neptunes Islands today ⛡️, which are the only land mass in between here and Antarcticaβ„οΈπŸŒŠ #openocean #bigfish πŸŸπŸ˜ŒπŸŒπŸ’™

  • Australian Sea Lions are the puppies of the sea, this little one followed me for about half an hour with an extreme fascination for my gopro and my dive mask, apparently taste testing was a good option, GoPro is still in tact! sneaky little nugget … . . ☺️🐠🐟🐠🐟@adventurebaycharters @gopro @animals (at Adventure Bay Charters)

  • I got this tattoo inside my lip 3 years ago, and to my surprise it hasn’t fallen out one bit. I got this at the beginning of my Marine Biology degree 🐳🌎 and to this day La Mar by the Beautiful Girls is still one of my favourite songs 😌 If your in SA I’m helping to raise money for marine conservation at Flinders Uni today alongside some fellow Marine Biology people , so if your around come say hiiii πŸ™‹
🌡Heading to Port Lincoln to spend some serious time with the Great Whites tomorrow 🐠🐟🐠 , super excited.
🌻Thanks for the beautiful rings @jewelsbyjacqueline , the blue stone one is my favourite πŸ˜˜πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈπŸ’™πŸ’›πŸ’™πŸ’› (at Flinders University)

  • I spent this morning swimming with these puppies off Hopkins Island in Port Lincoln with @adventurebaycharters 🌏. I wore 8kgs of weight with a 7ml suit so I could stay down with them and frolick, but still stay warm 🌊🐠
One little pup kept biting my @gopro , will put up the clip later, such a playful little guy β˜ΊοΈβ˜ΊοΈβ˜ΊοΈπŸ’™πŸŒ @southaustralia @southaustralia @australia #nature #AustralianSeaLions (at Sea Lion Haven)

  • "Excuse me do you want to do some somersaults with me? " ☺️🐠
Australian Sea Lion that was following me around this morning, my @gopro housing survived some inquisitive chewing by this little nugget.
Aboard @adventurebaycharters for the next 3 days in Port Lincoln, you will be seeing a lot more of this , and 🐟🐟 βš“οΈπŸŒπŸ˜.

  • What career as a marine biologist you have though to do? Like i am really interested to study marine biology in uni but i am just thinking is there many jobs for them? However how did you choose to study marine biology? Thanks lovely :)

There are a lot , it totally depends on what you want to do. What road you want to go down and where your passion lies. My passion lies in conservation, marine mammals and sharks, where as some marine biologist may focus on smaller fish or algae or shellfish.
It is entirely up to you! You will find work if you really want it

I honestly adore all your posts! I've always had a bit of a fear of the water and looking at your posts just make me appreciate it! I admire your passion for your work xxx

    Thankyou lovely :)

what camera and equipment do you use to film and photograph above and below water?

    I use a GoPro Hero3+ all the time :)

I'm in LOVE with your insta and the fact that you're a marine biologist. please tell me how you made this happen. I've always been fascinated by the ocean and would love to study at uni but I didn't do TEE yr 12 and feel like it's impossible for me because of the whole scientific part and not doing biology or anything in year 12 I feel like I would fail miserably. I just want to do something that helps make a difference and not be like the majority of people who end up working in an office :(

You can do a lot for conservation without a degree. Try volunteering at some non for profit organisations :) volunteering gets you experience, and experience gets you everywhere :)

  • 🐠Although I had a pup kiss my mask a few times, these bigger cuties were happy to just kiss the gopro and not me … πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™
So so grateful to be able to experience these guys happy and free in their environment like this. I have helped rehabilitate a lot of this exact species from the harms of entanglement in fishing line and fishing apparatuses, and it is the most rewarding thing being able to play with them like this 🐟🐟🐟 wish you were here @nataliekparra πŸŒπŸŒπŸ‘#bliss #freedom #sealkisses (at Adventure Bay Charters)

  • I just finished writing a study focusing on the major changes in morphology and adaptations of cetaceans in comparison to modern terrestrial mammals, and found some really interesting papers and evolutionary research πŸ³πŸŒπŸŒŠπŸ™Œ
Cetaceans are known as exceptionally social, emotional and intelligent animals, β€οΈπŸ’™and alongside the terrestrial mammals from the order Proboscidea ( Elephants )🐘 , contain the largest brains in mammalian evolution🌟Which explains the similarities in social structure, emotional behaviours, intelligence and nurturing habits that are seen in both elephants, and whales.
